Advertising Design

Capturing the attention of your audience

Creating an ad or a campaign starts with understanding the brand, it’s target audience and your client’s intentions. It’s very rare when all of these falls into place smoothly like puzzle pieces. Having grown up in Sri Lanka, the foremost Tea producer to the world as Ceylon Tea I was well aware of the background and history of Tea in the island. It had colonial roots, and dated over 300 years which were key features.

So it was an obvious choice to use these facts in our headline, emphasizing it’s roots and visually use the plain black tea leaves to tell the story. The first one I shaped it to look like the Union Jack flag, as the British were the last rulers of Sri Lanka, and introduced the plant to the country. Obviously I used a bit of a controversial (but true fact) headline to achieve this.

The second one was targeted to the North American Market, once again using tea leaved to visually show the fag of another country as a visual element. This time the headline was also a fact, that tea industry in Sri Lanka dated way before the USA was discovered.

These are few of the exciting opportunities I got to develop Ad campaigns that were hard hitting and thought provoking. Below are few other samples of different kind of ads, as well as some of the concepts that were equally daring and thought provoking that never got published.
